Workplace Wellness Programs and Whole-Person Health
Smart Rewards is a wellness incentive program offered through Elevance Health-affiliated commercial health plans. The program motivates members to engage in preventive care, condition management, and wellness activities. This report found that participation was high, especially among women, older adults, and individuals with greater health needs.
Through the Smart Rewards program, members can receive gift card incentives for completing activities like annual checkups, cancer screenings, chronic condition management, and wellness coaching. In 2023, 65 percent of eligible members completed at least one activity, averaging nearly three activities per participant.
Engagement was especially strong among women and those with lower Whole Health Index (WHI), suggesting the program effectively reaches individuals with greater health and social needs. Participants were also significantly more likely to meet HEDIS quality measures, such as blood pressure control, cancer screenings, and hemoglobin A1c management. These findings highlight how thoughtfully designed wellness incentives can empower employees to take proactive steps toward improving their well-being.
