Amid Grief and Depression, a Supportive Connection Helped Him Move Forward

Ronnie’s depression started after the death of his son — a loss deepened by financial difficulties that left him without enough money for a burial and at risk of losing his home. Getting enough food was a challenge; because of transportation issues, so was seeing a doctor. But a phone call became a turning point.

Antoinette, a community care manager with Ronnie’s Elevance Health-affiliated Medicaid plan, connected with Ronnie and provided compassionate and continued support that helped him access medical care and meet other important needs. “I knew that he needed someone to listen,” she said.

Not only did Antoinette listen — she took action. Her dedicated, holistic support offered more than Ronnie expected from his health plan, and it helped him move forward.
