Anthem and Anthem Foundation Support Communities Across the Country During Annual Anthem Volunteer Day Events

Press Release October 1, 2018
Company’s largest community-based giving campaign will aid more than 60 projects focused on hunger, homelessness and community revitalization in 22 states

INDIANAPOLIS --(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 1, 2018-- Anthem and the Anthem Foundation today announced the start of their largest annual volunteer event, Anthem Volunteer Days. The 2018 campaign, which runs through November, brings together Anthem associates, their families, and friends to help charitable organizations in 22 states across the country. During the seven week campaign, volunteers will work on more than 60 service projects and donate their time sorting and packing food at local food banks, distributing meals to the homeless, building community vegetable gardens, and participating in community revitalization projects.

Year-round, Anthem associates volunteer their time to support local non-profit organizations that share our goal of creating a healthier future for all Americans by working to address the needs of their communities,” said Gail K. Boudreaux , President and CEO, Anthem. “We are proud of the contributions our associates make on a daily basis but we also believe that we can have an even greater impact when we all work together as one company. That is why, in 2015, we launched Anthem Volunteer Days as a ‘season of service’ and a way in which we can all join together in projects that will make a significant difference to the communities where we work and live.”

In 2018, Anthem will once again partner with Lions Club International to launch Anthem Volunteer Days. As the largest service club organization in the world, Lions International teams with Anthem to identify organizations in the community that need extra assistance with vital resources.

“Lions are a global force for good, but we know that we can achieve even more through incredible partners like Anthem and the Anthem Foundation ,” said Lions International President Gudrun Yngvadottir . “We’re excited to be part of this national event that will bring real help to the people who need us most.”

Through previous Anthem Volunteer Days campaigns, Anthem and Lions International have served approximately 1.2 million people nationwide, and have helped pack or serve more than 368,000 meals to the homeless, assembled 27,000 hygiene kits, built community vegetable gardens, removed more than 10,000 pounds of trash and debris to create outdoor spaces for recreation, and so much more.

In addition to the Anthem Volunteer Days service projects, Anthem associates continually give generously to support non-profit organizations throughout the country. In 2017, Anthem raised $4.6M through the company’s matching gifts program, which matches associate contributions to a list of select charities. Anthem associates also contributed over 55,000 service hours to a variety of non-profit organizations through the “Dollars for Doers” program that provides grants to eligible organizations in exchange for service hours.
